Often those purchasing a wheelchair ramp for use with their wheelchair will purchase a ramp without handrails as they do not need them whilst those purchasing a ramp to use with a walker, walking stick or rollator will often select a ramp with handrails.

Whilst the regulations do not state handrails are required, for businesses, where possible, we do recommend purchasing an access ramp with handrails to allow your workplace, shop or building to be as accessible as possible. The Equality Act 2010 requires service providers to make reasonable adjustments for those with disabilities and therefore providing a ramp with handrails will allow you to take an additional step to ensure your property is as accessible as possible.
